Laboratories

Concrete Laboratory

A fully equipped concrete laboratory tests and evaluates aggregates, cements, and fresh and hardened concrete. The laboratory is equipped with all the equipment required for manufacturing and testing of specimens.  Major equipment include Compressive Testing Machine, Flexural Testing Machine, Accelerated Curing Tank, Workability measuring equipments, Concrete Mixer, table vibrator, Mechanical sieve shaker, water bath etc. Other sophisticated equipment to perform Non-destructive tests like Ultrasonic pulse velocity meter and Rebound hammer are also available and used extensively in various activities.

Soil mechanics laboratory

The Geotechnical engineering laboratory, is well equipped with the set up essential for performing all the laboratory tests for both B.Tech and M.Tech programs as per MAKAUT syllabus. Important equipments that exist in the Geotechnical Engg laboratory are Hydrometer, Casagrand`s Apparatus, Proctor apparatus, Triaxial Apparatus, Direct Shear apparatus, Vane Shear Apparatus, Unconfined compressive strength test apparatus, Consolidation Apparatus, Permeability Apparatus, California Bearing Ratio test apparatus, geotextiles test apparatus etc. Well prepared laboratory manuals are supplied to the students for their better understanding of concern test.

Highway & Transportation Laboratory

The Highway Engineering Lab is well equipped with modern equipments for testing of pavement materials. This lab provide facilities for testing of aggregates and bituminous materials. The Bituminous Lab, provides facilities for testing bituminous materials and mixtures. The Lab is equipped to perform various tests on bituminous materials and mixtures including Marshall, penetration, softening point, ductility  and bitumen extraction tests. Equipments are also available in the aggregate laboratory to determine Aggregate Impact, Abrasion and shape test etc.

Computer Laboratory

The CAD Laboratory is one of the most attractive part of Civil Engineering department. There are enough number of computers and each computer has internet connection with high configuration. All computer have different type of analysis, design and drawing software related to Civil engineering.

ENVIRONMENTAL eNGINEERING LABORATORY

The Environmental Engineering Laboratory of the Civil Engineering Department is well equipped to carry out experiments included in the university syllabus to determine different physical, chemical and biological water quality parameters and wastewater characteristics. Along with other sophisticated instruments, the laboratory has BOD Incubators, Spectrophotometer, Digital pH Meter, Turbidity Meter, Sophisticated Weighing Balance, Autoclave and Jar Test Apparatus.

sURVEYING sTORE

The Survey lab offers supplemental experience in fundamental land surveying measurement methods for surveying courses, including precision chain and taping methods to perform horizontal measurements, traditional compass and transit Theodolites to perform précised angular measurements and Auto Level instruments to execute traditional elevation measurements. Also, geometrical conditions of site are manuscript in the map sheet using plane table and alidade after that topographic details are arranged on the map.

In addition, students have opportunity to use Total Station equipment, which enables horizontal, vertical, and angular measurements to be made in one operation.

GEOLOGY LABORATORY

Engineering geology is the scientific discipline concerned with the application of geological knowledge to engineering problems – e.g., to reservoir design and location, determination of slope stability for construction purposes, and determination of earthquake, flood, or subsidence danger in areas considered for roads, pipelines, or other engineering works.

In this geoscience laboratory, we have a large number of mineral and rock samples representing lithology of all parts of India. We have enough number of petrological polarising microscopes and students have enough access to them. We have a good collection of mineral thin sections and petro-thin sections of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks.

Not only the machines, a good collection of geological and structural maps in soft and hard copies are preserved in the departmental archive. Students learn how to use the map and how to solve the geological and structural problems with the help of steronet.

FLUID MECHANICS lABORATORY

Knowledge of Fluid mechanics and machinery is essential for civil engineers to solve problems involving flow of fluids such as in aerodynamics, force of fluid on structural surfaces, fluid transport. The Fluid Mechanics  Lab is well-equipped for performing the experiments for the Civil Engineering  Program. Important instruments include Triangular notch, Orificemeter, Venturimeter, Rectangular Flume, Centrifugal pump, Pelton Wheel Turbine and Reciprocating pump. Experiments are performed for calibration of different instruments like V-notch, venturimeter, Broad-crested weir, determination of water surface profile of hydraulic jump, determination of orifice coefficients, determining efficiencies of the pumps and turbines.

SOLID MECHANICS LABORATORY

Solid mechanics laboratory is one of the most important laboratory where strength of various materials under different kinds of loading such as bending, torsion, impact are  investigated.
